Its a public secret that the majors are struggling to sell their music and don’t know how to use the web to their benefit. The fact that some have Google ads on their website in order to make some cash is hilarious. All the more funny when Hypebot blogger Bruce Houghton put up this ad via Google ads. I hope Columbia got their money’s worth.

Synapse was an electronic music magazine released between 1976 and 1979 fe as far as I know there were only 12 issues released. Check out the interesting articles about artists such as Herbie Hancock, Brian Eno, George Duke,Devo Zappa and many more pioneers. If you are into synths and electronic music this is a must!

Thanks Marco Magic

Here’s the brand new site for the upcoming Byrne/Eno album, “Everything That Happens Will Happen Today.”

The album will be released August 18 as a digital download only (DRM-free). Then, later there’ll be a deluxe package CD with download option, etc. A free track will be released for download on 8/4. The site has a short video by David Byrne.

“Brian Eno and I recently finished our first collaboration in about 30 years. For the most part, Brian did the music and I wrote some tunes, words and sang. It’s familiar but completely new as well. We’re pretty excited. In August the music will be available via this Web site, free for streaming and it will also be available for purchase as both a download and in physical formats. One of the songs will be available free of charge.

In September I will begin a tour, on which I will be playing music from the new album as well as music from our previous collaborations – 3 Talking Heads albums, Bush of Ghosts, etc. If you’d like to be updated as this story unfolds, please add your email address via the box below (we will not contact you for any reason other than to tell you about this David Byrne and Brian Eno project and the tour and we promise not to give or sell your contact to anyone else or even to the government).”

Here is a terrific auditory illusion called a Shepard Scale. Listen to the video, then replay it. Again. And again. And again.

Wikipedia: A Shepard tone, named after Roger Shepard, is a sound consisting of a superposition of sine waves separated by octaves. When played with the base pitch of the tone moving upwards or downwards, it is referred to as the Shepard scale. This creates the auditory illusion of a tone that continually ascends or descends in pitch, yet which ultimately seems to get no higher or lower.

“All those years the music industry spent insisting that the only way they’d sell music is with crippling DRM attached managed to totally discredit the idea of buying music at all.”

“Once the Yahoo store goes down and the key servers go offline, existing tracks cannot be authorized to play on new computers. Instead, Yahoo recommends the old, lame, and lossy workaround of burning the files to CD, then reripping them onto the computer. Sure, you’ll lose a bunch of blank CDs, sound quality, and all the metadata, but that’s a small price to pay for the privilege of being able to listen to that music you lawfully acquired. Good thing you didn’t download it illegally or just buy it on CD!

There’s no “Camera’s, action, roll” in the making of this video, as there are no camera’s involved here. This video is shot with 360 scanners, thus made up by data, rather than image. Of course Radiohead is the first band rolling with this new technique. Check the making of.

Jill Scott, Anthony Hamilton and Maxwell perform Al Green songs during an Al Green tribute, while the reverent himself takes on some of his legendary songs. Somewhat old news (tribute took place in June), but I only found it today and thought it would fit musicmusic. Enjoy.
